Treatments
Rosehip oil has been used for centuries as far as the Hippocrates and ancient Egyptians as a treatment for many skin conditions.
- Reduce sun damage – The vitamin C in rose hip protects the skin and acts as an antioxidant, repairing skin after skin damage.
- Reduce wrinkles – Vitamin F traps moisture in the skin combating the effects of aging and reversing signs of aging such as crow’s feet. The carotenoids in rose hip leave the skin feeling fresh and healthy by helping to create new skin cells.
- Reduce hyperpigmentation – This is from excess pigmentation from too much sun exposure, hormonal changes such as menopause or pregnancy and medications like birth control pills and chemotherapy drugs. The Lycopene and beta carotene found in the rose hip are said to have lightening properties, therefore reducing pigmentation.
- Treat mild-moderate acne – Given rose hip’s anti-inflammatory nature, its most explicit effect is on inflammatory conditions such as acne. This includes; papules, pimples, pustules, nodules and cysts. Vitamin A and Linoleic acid regulate the production of sebum which in turn prevents whiteheads and blackheads from forming and shrinks pimples.
- Reduce scars – Due to rose hip oil’s ability to be easily absorbed into the deep layers of the skin, scars can be repaired at a much deeper level compared to other oils that are not easily absorbed. All of the vitamins and fatty acids can get to work by healing the site where the scar resides.
- Sooth skin – Vitamins A, E, F and C and Essential fatty acids reduce inflammation repair and replenish the skin. Leaving a soft and smooth skin.
- Reduce inflammation – Rose hip as explained above has anti-inflammatory properties that will reduce skin conditions.
- Renew skin cells – As we age there is a decrease in vitamin A production and an inhibition when it comes to creating an enzyme called MMP-1 that breaks down collagen in the body. Vitamin A is essential for collagen production. Rosehip helps in the creation of collagen. Vitamin A helps in skin cell turnover.
- Dry or oily skin – Rosehip oil can be used on oily or dry skin. Don’t avoid this oil if you have oily skin, it acts as an astringent, drying up the pores and minimizing the appearance of pores. People with dry skin can also use this oil. It traps in moisture allowing your skin to be hydrated without clogging pores. It helps with elasticity, softness and hydration of the skin. This is a great oil for all skin types unless you have a sensitivity toward rose hip.
- Damaged skin – There is more vitamin C found in rose hips than there is in oranges or lemons. This is why it is such a powerful antioxidant and why it can repair the skin.
- Calm skin irritations resulting from rosacea, psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. This oil is potent and can be a great source of treatment for many skin conditions.
When one begins to use oils on the skin there is just no turning back. Oils are deeply nourishing and rejuvenating. Oils are also very quickly absorbed by the skin and one is not left with the oily residue one might expect. How beautiful to be able to utilize what nature has provided in the form of rose hip oil!
